SimonsVoss is launching a new, digital high-tech fitting, optimised for use on exterior doors: the SmartHandle AX Advanced. The digital locking technology specialist from Unterföhring, Germany, is thus extending its AX platform-based fittings program with the ideal complement to its highly successful SmartHandle AX for interior doors.

“This duo will enable us to act much more flexibly with our specialist trade partners on the market, offering users an all-in-one solution that complies with essential break-in protection and fire safety requirements, as well as emergency exit security, in the area of external building security. At the same time, user convenience and design are perfectly integrated,” explains Oliver Brandmeier, Head of Product Management.

The fitting is available with a narrow or wide cover, depending on its usage. The carrier plate with the electronics, actuator and battery modules is located underneath this. The module carrier offers enough space to adapt the fitting individually to different types of doors and installations with the aid of additional mounting plates. As with all AX-platform components, the new SmartHandle AX Advanced supports the active transponder, passive smart card (MIFARE® DESFire®), hybrid (active and passive) and Bluetooth (BLE) reading technologies. The fitting is suitable for offline use, partial networking and full networking.

The technical features of the SmartHandle AX Advanced in a nutshell:

▪ Waterproof and weather-resistant

In the WP variant, which offers protection class IP66, the fitting is protected on all sides against influences from the environment, such as direct water jets or dust – of great advantage, especially for free-standing exterior doors, such as fence gates. The cable-free connection between the outer and inner side provides optimum protection to the electronics and helps to prevent electronic vulnerabilities.

▪ Maximum certified break-in protection ES3/SKG***

In the variant with security fitting, robust screws and a metal plate prevent unwanted manipulation. An additional mechanical cylinder is protected by sheathing and is installed in such a way that it doesn’t protrude.

▪ Can be used for emergency exits and escape routes

In variant A4 for panic bars, the SmartHandle AX Advanced can also be used for emergency exits and escape routes in accordance with DIN EN 1125. A panic bar, freeing the way in an emergency, can be installed on the inner side of the door by means of a mounting adapter.

▪ High angle of rotation against wear and tear

A high angle of rotation of up to 50° means that the handle is less frequently pressed all the way down. This high angle protects against wear and tear, and contributes to the long service life of the SmartHandle AX Advanced. A successfully passed test of one million pressing operations, i.e. five times more than required by the standard, is also proof of its optimum resilience.

▪ Variant diversity for differing applications

The SmartHandle AX Advanced is being launched in a total of nine variants with different fixing plates. It is suitable for tubular-frame and full-leaf doors of 32 mm to 185 mm in thickness. It can also be used on free-standing exterior doors, such as fence gates. Seven different handle shapes (which can be assembled facing to the left and right) are available, as well as several surface designs, such as stainless steel or brass.

▪ Easy installation

Thanks to the diverse variants, no additional drilling is required for most installations. Cabling through the door is not necessary either, as the protected electronics are located on the outer side only.
