General

In which languages is the AX2Go app currently available?

AX2Go is available in the following languages: German, English, Dutch, French, Italian, Swedish and Danish. The language of the smartphone’s operating system is automatically applied, or you can select an app language separately in the operating system’s settings.

Does it cost anything to download the app?

No, downloading and using the AX2Go app is free of charge. The licensing costs are paid by the operator of the locking system.

What data of mine is stored by SimonsVoss or third parties?

To enable you to open authorised locks with your smartphone, certain protocol data must be sent back and forth between the AX Manager database, the cloud services and your smartphone. This is data about the locking device, such as the authorised locks or the validity of the key. All this data is end-to-end encrypted. To identify the smartphone that’s connected, a unique number is assigned by our server.

Our Privacy Policy gives you more information about the exact data that’s saved.

Downloading and setting up the app

Do I have to register as an AX2Go user?

No, you don’t have to register. The person responsible for the locking system sends you an invitation by email or text message from the administration software. This contains a one-time link that either forwards you to the download area of the app in your app store or, if you’ve already downloaded the app, straight to the app.

Why doesn’t the link from the email / text message work?

For security reasons, the link is valid once only. If you click on the link a second time, an explanatory error text appears in the AX2Go app. The invitation is also only valid for a specific length of time. This time can be set by the administrator (a maximum of 120 hours). If it has expired, an error message is also displayed. In these cases, please contact your locking device administrator.

What phone settings must I authorise for the app?

Straight after installation you’ll be requested to allow Bluetooth, always allow location services, if necessary, and allow notifications. Bluetooth is required for the communication between lock and smartphone, and is used for transmitting the protocol data. Location authorisation is a purely technical necessity, stipulated by Google and Apple, so that BLE can be used. At no point do we capture your location.

With newer operating system versions, location and Bluetooth are not requested separately, but consolidated in “nearby devices”.

As an option, you can also allow “battery optimisation”. If your smartphone switches to low-power mode and you’ve granted this authorisation, you can continue to use the app in the background. If you haven’t allowed battery optimisation, you must then call AX2Go manually.

Using the App

Do I have to call the app to use it?

No. To open a SimonsVoss locking component with your smartphone, the phone need only be unlocked (the lock screen is no longer visible, just the background screen / home screen with the apps). The AX2Go service runs in the background and can communicate with the lock via BLE. The service only stops running if you stop the app yourself (Android: ‘Force Stop’). This may also happen in low-power mode if you haven’t authorised AX2Go to continue to run in this mode.

Why do I have to set up a display lock to use the AX2Go app?

That’s one of the security-infrastructure levels of AX2Go. If you lose your smartphone, the display lock protects against misuse. It means that no one else can use your smartphone as an access medium.

Why do I have to touch the lock with my smartphone to open it?

There are two good reasons for this. Firstly, it ensures that you actually intend to open the lock. Placing the smartphone extremely close to the lock means that the proximity makes the association between smartphone and lock clear. Secondly, it saves the battery power of the locks. A Bluetooth channel is only established if the Bluetooth interface is activated (“woken”) by the touch of the smartphone.

How long does it take for new authorisations to arrive on my smartphone?

As a rule, it only takes a few seconds, at maximum a minute, until the modified authorisations arrive. A loading icon shows you this in the appropriate AX2Go key.

When I touched the lock with my smartphone, the Apple Wallet opened. What should I do?

This may happen if your smartphone’s NFC antenna is held directly against the lock. Please try again with a different part of your smartphone.

If you hold your smartphone against the lock for too long (more than 2 seconds), the RFID reader recognises the NFC interface of your smartphone and opens the Wallet. Try again by holding your smartphone against the lock for only a very short time (less than 1 second).

Please note: Even if the Wallet is open, the AX2Go app still works.

As an alternative, you can start the AX2Go app, so that your smartphone establishes a BLE connection first. You can also touch the lock with a metal object, such as a ring, while holding your smartphone a few centimetres away.

Why can’t I open the lock from further away, without having to touch it?

There are two good reasons for this. Firstly, it ensures that you actually intend to open the lock. Placing the smartphone extremely close to the lock means that the proximity makes the association between smartphone and lock clear. Secondly, it saves the battery power of the locks. A Bluetooth channel is only established if the Bluetooth interface is activated (“woken”) by the touch of the smartphone.
